433MHz frequency modulated wireless radio links were used to interconnect sensor network nodes. This article gives you an overview of a prototype wireless sensor network that has been successfully implemented as an undergraduate project Wireless Sensor Network with Low Power Consumption.



The BiM2 transceiver is an enhanced replacement for the original BiM module. It offers greater transmit power, higher data rates, greatly improved receiver interference rejection and a lower profile.

BiM2-433-160 – The sensor network wireless links were powered by 433MHz High Speed FM Radio Transceiver Module. These modules were driven by PIC microcontrollers.

Base Station


The PIC18F4550 Base Station connects to a PC and allow the monitoring of the Wireless Sensor Network. The connection to the PC from the Base Station was realized via USB port. A Visual Basic Application was used on a Windows Operating System to monitor the Wireless Sensor Network.

Sensor Nodes

PIC16F877 features 256 bytes of EEPROM data memory, self programming, an ICD, 8 channels of 10-bit Analog-to-Digital (A/D) converter, 2 additional timers, 2 capture/compare/PWM functions, the synchronous serial port can be configured as either 3-wire Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI™) or the 2-wire Inter-Integrated Circuit (I²C™) bus and a Universal Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (USART). All of these features make it ideal for more advanced level A/D applications in automotive, industrial, appliances and consumer applications.
